As I transitioned from the military into Corporate America I almost immediately realized although the military prepared me for many facets of leadership and life it didn't prepare me for the complex world of business communication.
It was 4 pm, on very my first day in Corporate America as I attended a meeting. For the first 10 minutes our manager was leading the meeting and anything seemed normal but within minutes the dynamics quickly changed. Junior members were talking over more senior members. Respect for one another seemed to be at a minimum throughout the meeting as team member focused on trying to persuade each other on different aspects of the meeting. At 5:30 pm the door opened and everyone seems to be friends again.In my professional career I'd never seen anything like that before. As I later analyzed the situation I realized while I was in the military, communication was always kept at a minimum. You're either giving orders or taking orders but there isn't a discussion about them. It was that experience that drove me to study, develop, test, and implement practical communication tools I could easily use in any business environment and is the basis behind this book.The tools and techniques in this book helped me get promoted twice in a year at a Fortune 500 Company, accepted into a 3 year Leadership Development Program, and I was even able to talk a manager into creating my dream job during an interview when the position didn't exist at the time.Business communication skills are critical to your success. Chris has 3 degrees, including a Masters Degree in Project Management. He is also a graduate of a three year Fortune 500 Leadership Development Program and certified in advanced human behavior.
