Strong Work by Liles
By Marnie
Liles is an esteemed doctor and an outstanding teacher (named best teacher in the graduate school at UNC), so the book couldn't come from a better pedigree. The method is right, too. No stodgy textbook, here. Cases are the best source of learning for this book's target audience. A must have resource for the combined med/peds resident, or from either side of the program.

Great for teaching students/residents
By Chad J. DeMott
Nice case review with indexed cases for ease of use.
I have used this book already as a back-drop for discussions with medical students. It is organized and easy to read. Good pearls.
Wardrop and Liles did a great job.

Not spectacular
By leann
So, I am mixed about this book. I think it's a great idea, to present and go over cases in an exhaustive manner, but sometimes I feel as though the book gets too in depth. For instance, there's a case regarding TOF. The case presentation is great, the relevant tables are great, and the images are pretty good. The discussion was going fine until the book went into hardcore depth regarding surgical repair. On one hand it's nice to have slightly more information than needed, but on the other, it annoys me, especially in a board review book. I'm not taking a cardiothoracic board exam (for example). (Yes, I could have skipped that portion, but then I get that "you're not being complete" feeling.) I used that case as an example for simplicity, but it is the general trend I sense from the book.
Overall, I feel like this book consistently goes excessively in depth, to the point that I get bored and put it away. I also feel as though a disproportionate number of the cases err on the side of zebras (not completely). I feel some "main concept bullet points" type thing may help delineate what the authors really want to convey.
Some people may want this type book. It bores me. I'm not totally clear if this is intended for FP or not, if it is, it just doesn't feel right to me.
