About the Author
Mildred R. Donoghue is a Professor of Education and Reading at California State University, Fullerton. She teaches courses in the Multiple Subject Credential Program and in the Master's program in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction (emphasis: Early Childhood Education). She is a member of Alpha Upsilon Alpha Honor Society of the International Reading Association.

Donoghue has published nine books to date in the language/literacy field, the latest being Language Arts: Integrating Skills for Classroom Teaching (SAGE). She serves on the editorial review board of the Journal of Children's Literature (NCTE) and The Dragon Lode (IRA) and has established the Donoghue Children's Literature Center at the University Library at Cal State Fullerton. Her work as supervisor of elementary student teachers allows her to visit public classrooms and maintain currency in her preparations and writing.

Seems like a good text

Easy to read, video clips are not too long. This is a required text for a class I am taking "Integrated Language Arts". Is a newer addition so has current resources. I find myself highlighting a lot.

I have used this book by Father Denissen many times over the last 28 years. I find it very useful and most accurate. I have used Father Dennision's information as a spring board to finding and verifing birth, marriage and death information on my ancestors. I marvel at the task he accomplished without computers. He has given me complete generations on many of my lines. If you have French families in this area of the country I advise you to start with these books you will not regret the time you spend searching through these two volumns.

Wrong book

I thought I was purchasing the Genealogy of the French Families of the Detroit River Region, 1701-1936, and was so excited to see it when it came. As it turned out it was a skimpy little book that had absolutely nothing to do with the book I ordered. I was absolutely livid, so I contacted the person I bought from and she refunded my money. I'm sure it was a mistake, but I don't know whose mistake it was. Anyway, there is not problem now.

An invaluable resource

As an amateur genealogist, I am always looking for new resources. Well, if you have family members who have roots in the French families of the Detroit-Monroe, Michigan (River Raisin) area, then you really must see these books. This area was an important part of New France, and French families have inhabited the area since 1701.

This book - in two volumes - contains information on French families and their descendents. There is an entry for each head (male) of each family, including birth and death dates, parents, date(s) of marriage(s), wives and their vital statistics, and children.

Overall, I found this to be a great resource. It contains a great deal of information on families, even those often ignored in other resources that I have seen. Now, as is too often the case with older resources, the author (Fr. Christian Denissen) tended to anglicize names. But, it nonetheless gives you a great leg-up in your research.

So, let me just say that I consider this to be an invaluable resource, one that any genealogist looking into the Detroit-Monroe area must see! I give this book my highest recommendations!

It's only useful once you find the answer key.

I am required by my LPN program to complete the Study Guide for independent hours. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to purchase this as a study aid. It is overpriced, and tedious to complete (unless you find the answer key). The Study Guide has terminology matching and "NCLEX style" questions, It doesn't help me get through the reading, because it skips around the chapter. There is no chapter summary or overview. I print out the key to the chapter I'm working on and use the Study Guide to TEST myself.
(I find that I need a clear overview of the subject to prepare for the volume of reading in the text. I'm going to purchase the Med/Surg Demystified book (for half the price of this Study Guide) and hope that it is more helpful.)

Also, the answer key is NOT in the Study Guide. However, the answers are available online, on the Evolve site
(Hint: The URL is in LIGHT GREY PRINT, AT THE TOP OF EACH CHAPTER in the Study Guide. Go there and "purchase" the FREE STUDENT RESOURCES for the corresponding Textbook, and you will find the Study Guide answer key.) The key includes answers to all of the questions, and rationalizations for the multiple choice (NCLEX style) answers.

O! No, FIVE chapters are missing, WHY?

I discovered initially that chapters 30 and 31 were torn off by my seller. I sent an e-mail to notify him of my disstisfaction, but he didn't reply. Later, when I checked the entire book I discovered that chapters 44, 45 and 46 were also riped-off. What a dishonest businessman he is! I am totally disappointed and wished I hadn't made this purchase. This type of dishonesty does not encourage on-line purchases. Amazon.com, kindly facilitate action to refund my money and please stop dealing with such crooks.

Human Alien Encounter

This is a very very short story of only about 20 pages but I have to say it was interesting, titillating, and made me hope for a sequel. One of my favorite themes in sci/fi erotica is the coupling of Human and Alien. This book (though brief) was all about that theme. So I set my Kindle down with a smile on my face. Oh but if only there was more story. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. If I tell anything about this story (it being only 20 pages long) I'd probably end up giving away some of the plot so no spoilers from me. Adults only. Enjoy! I recommend it just for fun.

Drive You Crazy

Quan and Mo's toxic relationship was driving me bananas. It drama after drama after drama. Quan was selfish and insecure. He did Mo dirty in every sense of the word. She dealt with so much especially with Sherry that I couldn't believe it. It was like a never ending cycle. Then one day the unthinkable happens and Mo is fired up to the point of no return. This leads her on a journey she could have never imagined. Although through that journey she still had past hang ups and indecrestions. Mo struggle alot to find herself but with the help of Delicious and Mina and some good good Mo did alright. I commend the author on character development in this story and the way it was portrayed. This is 2nd on of her books I was recommended and have yet to be disappointed.

I finished this book in two days and it had me from the first page. Mo and Quan's relationship was over when the cheating (between both) began, however, time after time, they keep putting up with each other. The story of Mo and Quan and all of their drama, betrayal, lies, and cheating was a little too drawn out. I bought this on my Kindle and Mo didn't really start getting her mind together and realizing her worth until the book was over 80% finished. Just wish Ms. Ervin would have elaborated more on the good with Boss than the same story over and over with Quan (having multiple babies outside of the relationship). However, the drama was DRAMA and the storyline was well put together with great character development. I love this author's books and I will be buying all of them. Ms. Ervin is the QUEEN of forbidden love tales.

Kudos Ms. Ervin. This book is five stars, a book that I feel that a lot of women can relate to. Mo is a typical girl, in love with what was and what could be. She has been with Quan for almost 10 years. They have shared countless affairs, numerous miscarriages, and countless heartbreak. This a couple that was doomed from the start!!! Mo wants Quan to be a man that she knew that he could never be. Quan wants Mo to be a weak puppet, a person that he knew she would never be. After one heartbreak to many Mo finally has the strength to leave. In walks Boss a young man that depends respect. When Mo feels like she can finally move on, Quan comes a calling. Mo will have to decide if she wants to move on in the unknown or go back to what she knows best.

This book is a book that i recommend for every young lady and man. It shows the damage of a broken heart and unhealthy relationship. A lot of people hated Quan but I didnt because Keisha made it perfectly clear that he did genuinely loved Mo, the best that he could. That was what was sad to me. Quan's inability to truly love and do so unselfishly.
