Old and poorly structured.

While Routledge has a good reputation for their Colloquial courses for European languages, the Colloquial courses of other parts of the world enjoy a bad reputation about language learners.
The very worst of the worst Colloquial courses are the three Colloquial Arabic courses. Despite the importance of Arabic in the world, Routledge is oblivious to the need for good Arabic courses. In the early 80s they pushed out three courses called Colloquial Arabic: one for the Levant, one for Egypt and one for the Gulf States. Incredible as it may sound, they have never bothered to commission any new Arabic courses since the early 80s. This "new" course is simply the same old courses from the 80s with a flashy new cover but the same substandard content.
While republishing old courses might not necessarily be a huge problem, the three Colloquial Arabic courses were not good even when published. Compared to Routledge's Colloquial courses for European languages, you'll find only a fraction of the vocabulary and a fraction of the grammar. Whereas good Colloquial courses such as Colloquial Czech, Colloquial Russian or Colloquial Icelandic will teach you a vocabulary of about 2000 words and go through the grammar of the languages in question, the three Colloquial Arabic courses come with much less then 1000 words and hardly any useful grammar explanations at all.
